Valentine's Party review

I know, I am so far behind! Sorry!
For the second year Jim and I have been invited to a Valentine's Day party. At the party we are required to write a poem that we will read and then will be judged. Last year I wrote a poem the metaphors of our love. I didn't keep it but some of the metaphors I used were:
You are the pickety third in my song of life.
You are the Velcro of my depends. *
You are the leavening in my bread.

This year I decided to take on a tougher challenge, a sonnet. Writing a sonnet is not easy. Not only is there a strict structure (Shakespearean sonnet ABABCDCDEFEF GG, iambic pentameter, but a main metaphor that is argued and then the idea turned and the reader comes to a different understanding by the end.) Doesn't make sense? You are not alone. Therefore, I decided to write a snottet. It is not quiet a sonnet but I did try to follow the rules when I could or stretch the rules. I didn't want to write my snottet because it is not a sonnet, but then again, this is probably the only Snottet you have read.
If you can't write anything nice, then just say, "You are awesome!"

Snottet 109
by me
How often life is like a stormy sea.
Only with love we make Poseidon’s truce.
The rolling waves a chariot for he
the toumberleki of the sky sounds deuce.
He rushes onward trident war is coming
The salpinx cry no man can comprehend,
a sacrifice for war the God is drumming.
No boat of wood or steel can stay a mend.
But with anchoring lovers hand in hand,
the voices of the sea can not touch ear.
Unafraid of the end we make our stand
for better, worse, life and death we are here.
I am stronger because we’re forever
I know this is sappy, but whatever.

Hints:(This makes it look like my snottet is all serious)
Poseidon- Greek God of water, earthquakes and horses
toumberleki-Greek goblet drum
deuce-I used this word because thunder and lightning are a pair as are husband and wife. Oh!and it rhymes with truce
trident- a three pronged spear that Poseidon uses, also three is a significant number (husband, wife and God) (Father, Son and Holy Ghost)
salpinx-an ancient Greek trumpet. used in war or for chariot races
For better, worse, life and death- represent marriage
Forever- a forever marriage

Here is Jim's wonderful poem. Good thing I saved the best for last. It's quiet depressing because it took me awhile to write my snottet and jim was able to write out his poem really fast and it's really cute. (sad sigh)

While you were away.
By Jimbo
You're still away and I need to make dinner,
If you don't come back I'll be much thinner.
I look in the cupboards and see nothing ready,
No steak, no lasagna, not even spaghetti.
Yesterday I had chicken and...chicken;
I don't even have bread; the clock is still tickin'
My stomach is empty! What should I do?
I don't need a feast or anything new.
Shouldn't take long, there's a lot that I lack.
then I see it, tucked deep in the back;
A little tin can with beans and with pork;
I open the drawer, oh good a clean fork!
But no plate, oh well I open the can.
Stick in my fork and eat like a man.
Does it taste good? I really don't care.
The flavor of food is neither here nor there.
Because you're away; when your're back I'll think;
Of how everything tastes that I eat and I drink.
when you're gone food is food, a means to an end,
Taste only matters when I'm with my best friend.

Four Year Old Birthday Party

Our middle child had a birthday this month. We let her invite a few friends from church and I think that she had a great time. Look at her huge grin! And yes, do notice how clean the house is.
The kid's making bags to put their goodies in.

When I asked her what she wanted to do for her Birthday Party she said that she wanted to go fishing.
My first thought was, "Don't you want a Princess party?" But then I thought better of myself. Hello! Her party not mine and why make it more difficult for myself.
And then, why not?
I have great memories of fishing at carnivals; getting those rings that are really stamps, that never really work...
Our fishing hole.
We filled a plastic tub with cheap candy and toys. Taped them with paper clips and the kids took turns fishing. Very simple, and yet satisfying those party needs.
My daughters pink fish cake. It was her idea not mine. I think that this is what triggered the fishing idea.
I added the "caviar" to the fish because I thought it would be easier for the kiddo's to eat. They were supposed to be baby fish. It worked out just fine thank you very much.
Yum! I also decorated with pink, yellow and blue fish. You can see some of the fish on the table and on the banister behind the fishers.
I know, right, brilliant and soo cute. Googly eyes make all the difference.
Happy Birthday to my cute Banana child.

New Corporate Logos for 2009

None of these are my ideas or artwork.
They could have been my ideas if I had come up with it first. But it takes a lot of energy to be raising mini mes.

So far, the year of 2009 has been "ruff" on the economy.

People are stressed out and frustrated with what is happening.

I think that if companies let people know how much they are suffering, people will rush to their aid.

Oh wait already happening.... the complaining not the rushing to aid part.

I'm just waiting for the moment when the huge TVs will go for $20 dollars.

This

vs

This.

Look at the joy, there is meaning to life!

Then like a saintly knight I will run to the store

(maybe trampling an employee or two)

and support the struggling company.

I know that you would do the same.

Good'ol decent Americans.

With these new corporate Logos showing the suffering of some of our favorite companies, there will not be a dry eye left.

It is the start of huge discounts and ultimately, the first step in healing.

Mopping Queen

This morning in the kitchen as I mopped the floor, I had the sublime occasion to reflect on the previous month’s menu.
Near the table I smelled the subtle soft smell of tomato as I scrubbed away the spaghetti sauce’s palpable red marking on the floor.
I took a moment to pause when I noticed the dirt tracked inside displayed like art in the syrup of past breakfasts.
Then under the table I wrestled with the stubborn cheerios cocooned to the floor, preserved in their dark soggy graves and accompanied by a year’s supply of crumbs.
And just to make sure I was fully awake to enjoy these fleeting moments, the smarting of my head on the table as I stood up from the world of under the table.

While I was thus rubbing my head and scrubbing the floor my four year old kindly remarked that I look beautiful when I mop the floor.
“Can a four-year old be sarcastic?”
I asked my wounded self as I hitched up my sagging pants.
I puzzled her meaning as I looked over my finally cleaned kitchen floor.
And I smiled to myself knowing that my floor, like a blank canvas, will return to its artistic grandeur once more.

Oh and by the way, this is what I really look like when I am mopping the floor.

Hello!

Domestic Goddess here!

Why you should have fat kids

My sister Emily sent me a video of a skinny child getting into trouble.
There is a reason why cherubim are shaped the way they are.
How can you not love a cute chubby child?

I laughed so hard as I watched this video. I find it funny for two reason.

1. Why didn't I think of that when I was little? (Please no comments on how I was never that small as a child. Big bones you know.)

2. I can see my middle child doing the same thing. (Good thing she has her father's head. Not so good when she was born. Ouch!)

You have been warned.

Do not have skinny children!

Bogus Bio

This has nothing to do with Micheal Phelps recent "uh oh". Just some bogus biology humor.
